DoubleZero’s Federa says fast market data should not be private

DoubleZero has added Binance spot and futures data as Edge’s fifth venue in six months, with co-founder Austin Federa arguing that access to the fastest market feeds should be available to anyone willing to subscribe.

    Summary

    • Binance joins Solana, Kalshi, Hyperliquid and Phoenix on DoubleZero’s Edge market-data platform.
    • Federa says competition among professional traders can produce tighter spreads and better prices.
    • Edge uses a common data format to reduce the work of connecting separate venues.
    • Binance’s feeds carry top-of-book information and trades over DoubleZero’s dedicated fiber network.

Austin Federa, DoubleZero’s co-founder, told crypto.news that opening access to faster data is the company’s answer to concerns about professional trading firms gaining a speed advantage over ordinary users.

In his account, professional traders primarily compete on speed against other professionals. He argued that competition between firms quoting prices can benefit other exchange participants by narrowing the gap between buying and selling prices.

“Our answer to the imbalance concern is open access: the fastest data path shouldn’t be private rails and at unreachable price-levels.”

For Binance’s spot and futures feeds, Federa said anyone, from anywhere, can subscribe to the same stream. His argument centers on making the connection available rather than reserving the fastest delivery routes for selected firms.

DoubleZero says open access addresses the trading speed gap

The DoubleZero Foundation announced the Binance addition on Oct. 7, identifying the exchange as Edge’s first centralized trading venue. According to the foundation, the service distributes market information through dedicated fiber using multicast, a method that sends one published stream to connected subscribers.

With Binance included, the foundation said Edge now carries data from five venues through an existing subscription. The company reported more than 2,000 user connections since Edge went live in April; its announcement described connections rather than a count of individual customers.

Federa’s comments extend an argument he made in September when discussing open Kalshi data access. In that interview, he said customers could purchase a feed through DoubleZero’s website without going through a traditional sales process.

According to his earlier explanation, the subscription connects a customer’s cryptographic identity with the internet address of the receiving machine. A software connector then configures the machine and establishes a private tunnel into DoubleZero’s network.

Access remains paid, according to the September report. For that Kalshi service, Federa described the product as a read-only distribution platform: subscribers receive information for their trading systems, but Edge does not submit, route, or execute their orders.

Binance feeds use exchange-published data and dedicated fiber

Asked where the Binance information originates, Federa said DoubleZero sources its feed from data published by the exchange itself.

“DoubleZero’s Binance feed is sourced from the exchange’s first party published data.”

He added that Edge publishes information from multiple sources to ensure Binance-authored data reaches subscribers accurately. The foundation’s launch announcement identifies Tokyo as the ingestion location before the information travels across DoubleZero’s fiber network.

According to the announcement, the Binance package covers top-of-book information and completed trades across all symbols on its spot and futures feeds. Top-of-book data shows the best available buying and selling prices, while trade information records completed transactions.

On delivery speed, Federa said conventional connections remain dependent on public-internet performance. DoubleZero’s advantage, in his account, lies in moving the information through a faster transport network and maintaining a more consistent experience during congestion.

As he put it, “the data arrives more quickly than it otherwise would over the public internet.” He attributed the improvement to the transport layer carrying the exchange’s information to users.

A shared format reduces separate exchange integrations

For traders following Binance alongside Hyperliquid and Kalshi, Federa said Edge supplies a common format that removes the need to translate each venue’s information separately.

“Edge provides one unified data format across multiple venues, allowing users to ingest data from multiple exchanges, blockchains, and trading venues without having to worry about translation or operational overhead.”

The foundation said Binance’s information uses the same format as the other four sources. Under its stated design, trading teams can reuse code written for one venue instead of building and maintaining another separate integration.

Earlier, DoubleZero launched five Hyperliquid data feeds on Sep. 24. According to that announcement, four feeds cover Hyperliquid’s native perpetual futures and trade[XYZ] markets, while a fifth carries order intents drawn from transactions awaiting processing.

DoubleZero said the Hyperliquid service sends sequenced information so subscribers do not have to reconstruct the order book from public API updates. The foundation identified validator operators and partners Hyperion DeFi, MAVAN and Kinetiq as participants in that rollout.

For those feeds, DoubleZero said subscribers can use the information in their own pricing, hedging and trading systems. Its September announcement also specified that each paid subscription includes two internet addresses per region.

Kalshi feeds include U.S. election and derivatives markets

For U.S. readers, Edge’s existing Kalshi coverage includes markets operated by an exchange that identifies itself as a Commodity Futures Trading Commission-regulated designated contract market.

In September, DoubleZero announced that Kalshi election and politics data had joined Edge ahead of the U.S. election season. According to that announcement, the feed distributes bids, offers, and completed trades from the election order book.

Kalshi had first opened its order book to Edge subscribers on Aug. 12, starting with its most actively traded sports contracts and crypto perpetual futures. The companies said the package included both best-price information and orders at multiple price levels.

Under the commercial arrangement announced in August, Kalshi waived its publisher share of subscription revenue for one year. DoubleZero said subscribers would still pay for network delivery, even without an additional data-licensing charge from Kalshi during that period.

Separately, an Oct. 5 report detailed Hyperliquid’s Bloomberg Terminal integration, which added around-the-clock streaming prices for selected perpetual contracts across crypto, equities, commodities, foreign exchange and indexes.

According to that report, Terminal users can monitor those prices alongside traditional market references, while trading, custody, collateral management, and wallet interaction remain separate from Bloomberg’s market-data function.
