Bitcoin search interest has fallen to a reported five-year low, with BTC trading near $81,000, while Robinhood has reported a 55% annual decline in quarterly cryptocurrency revenue.

    Summary

    • Bitcoin search interest reportedly hit a five-year low as BTC traded near $81,000.
    • Robinhood’s crypto revenue fell 55% annually, although trading volume rose 23% from the previous quarter.
    • Retail-sized Bitcoin deposits to Binance reached a six-month high, according to CryptoQuant analyst Darkfost.
    • Galaxy Research left 55% of Bitcoin’s supply unattributed, preventing a verified count of retail holdings.

According to Kalshi, Google search interest in Bitcoin has fallen to its lowest level in five years, renewing discussion about retail participation with BTC trading near $81,000.

Bitcoin search interest draws comparisons with earlier lows

Trader Crypto Kaleo pointed to September 2023 and September 2024 as periods when similarly low search interest coincided with local Bitcoin price bottoms. “Both were local lows,” Kaleo wrote.

An October 27 report from crypto.news previously documented weaker Bitcoin search interest, citing a worldwide Google Trends reading of 20 for October 18–24 against peaks near 100 across the preceding five years.

According to it, the search figures appeared during a public disagreement among traders over cryptocurrency’s future. Trader Rex described the industry as finished, while Mert disputed the claim and Gum pointed to blockchain infrastructure and operating businesses.

Google’s methodology describes Trends as a sample of anonymized, aggregated searches. For each observation, Google divides searches for a term by total searches within the relevant location and period, then scales the results between zero and 100.

In its explanation of the service, Google says matching interest scores across regions do not necessarily represent matching search volumes. The company describes Trends as a measure of search interest, not a scientific opinion poll, and recommends considering it alongside other information.

Google filters repeated searches by the same person over a short period and excludes internal searches made by AI Mode and AI Overviews. Its documentation says statistical noise can be especially noticeable when interest is low. For charts covering 30 days or longer, Google uses Coordinated Universal Time; graphs covering seven days or less use the browser or device’s local time zone.

Robinhood’s annual decline includes a quarterly recovery

Robinhood’s Oct. 27 earnings release put third-quarter cryptocurrency revenue at $120 million, down 55% from a year earlier. The period ended Sep. 30, before the late-October search observations cited in the market discussion.

Across its cryptocurrency platforms, Robinhood reported $50 billion in quarterly trading volume, down 38% annually. App volume fell 48% to $21 billion, while Bitstamp volume dropped 28% to $29 billion, using the rounded figures in the release.

The accompanying earnings presentation showed a different comparison against the previous quarter: cryptocurrency trading volume rose 23% to $49.8 billion, and reported crypto revenue climbed 20% from $100 million.

On page 14, a presentation footnote identifies $26 million of net revenue attributable to Robinhood Chain within the crypto total. Subtracting that contribution leaves $94 million, a calculation consistent with The Block’s earnings coverage, which reported a 6% quarterly decline excluding the chain contribution.

In the same release, Robinhood reported record total quarterly revenue of $1.424 billion, up 12% annually. Options generated $399 million, equities brought in $121 million, and event contracts contributed $173 million.

Smaller Bitcoin wallets have continued sending coins to Binance

An Oct. 26 account of retail deposits to Binance cited CryptoQuant analyst Darkfost’s finding that inflows from retail-sized wallets had reached a six-month high.

According to his analysis, the 30-day cumulative value of those deposits moved from approximately $5.5 billion to $10.75 billion. Deposits attributed to whales fell from $5.9 billion in late August to roughly $3.8 billion over the comparison period described in the report.

Darkfost’s observations concerned transfers into an exchange, while Robinhood’s earnings measured trading and revenue over a completed quarter. Neither dataset provided a count of people who had stopped searching for Bitcoin on Google.

Separate Oct. 11 coverage of Robinhood Chain transaction activity cited growthepie figures showing average daily transactions of 6.2 million during October 2–8, compared with 10.8 million during Sep. 10–16.

According to the coverage, active addresses averaged roughly 322,000 daily, down 31% from mid-September. Weekly decentralized spot volume fell 21% to $7.45 billion, although perpetual futures volume rose 26% to $7.35 billion in the rolling seven-day observation reported for Oct. 9.

Bitcoin ownership research leaves retail holdings uncounted

Galaxy Research’s October ownership snapshot, detailed in Oct. 26 coverage of unidentified Bitcoin supply, left approximately 11.1 million BTC without an attributed owner, representing 55% of supply.

Galaxy research head Alex Thorn suggested that individuals managing personal wallets could account for a substantial portion of the unidentified holdings. The research did not establish a verified division between retail investors, unidentified institutions, and inaccessible coins.

According to the ownership coverage, the remaining 45% included balances attributed to exchanges, investment funds, governments and early mining groups. The classification depended on connecting blockchain addresses with identifiable holders, leaving ownership unresolved where those connections could not be established.

The same coverage cited Oct. 22 figures from Lookonchain showing 1,284,312 BTC held by the investment products it tracked. BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust accounted for approximately 814,263 BTC of that total.
